On 26 October 2003, the Sines terminal received a cargo from Nigeria LNG to commission the facility. Prior to the opening of the Sines terminal, LNG was delivered to the Huelva terminal in Spain and piped to Portugal via the Cordoba and Extremadura pipelines under an arrangement with Spain's Enagas.
