Guyana swears in new president
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
David Granger was sworn in as president of Guyana on 16 May, ending 23 years of rule by the incumbent PPP/C. Granger takes office amidst calls by former president, Donald Ramotar, of vote rigging; however, the acknowledgement by foreign governments of free and fair elections leaves little room for challenge. Granger now must confront a divided parliament and manage optimism of Guyana's potential first hydrocarbons discovery.
