The energy transition’s economic impact will be multifaceted. Understanding the full economic story of the energy transition requires a view to the end of the century. In this insight, we quantify the energy transition’s impact on real GDP growth to 2100, at both the global and country level. The global economy sees a hit initially. However, we find that over the very long term, the economic benefits of avoided climate damages outweigh the costs of cutting carbon emissions.
