Report summary
The refinery was near Chinhoyi, 130km north-east of Harare and has good road and rail links. It treats anodes from the adjacent smelter, which was commissioned on a greenfield site in 1959 to smelt and fire-refine concentrates for the Messina Group of Mines. Anode casting facilities were added to the smelter when the 20kt/a cathode refinery was commissioned in 1980 at a cost of US$5.3M.
