Report summary
The smelter was commissioned on a greenfield site in 1959 to smelt and fire-refine concentrates for the Messina Group of Mines. Anode casting facilities were added when the refinery was commissioned in 1980. Production in 1992 was affected by a six week maintenance shutdown in September/October, unscheduled power cuts and a reduction in concentrate purchases due to cash flow constraints.
