The deposits in Ambatovy and Analamay were discovered in 1960 and extend over 8 sq km in the centre of Madagascar. Between 1975 and 1990, when the country's socialist revolution took place, the President attempted to set up a chrome/iron operation at the sites. Commissioning of mining equipment commenced in 2010 and was followed by the start of ore processing in 2012. Production of mixed sulphide commenced in late May 2012 and continues to this day. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating a number of granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry standard cash operating costs. This report contains a detailed asset note giving you a holistic view of the asset, including an operational overview through to a timeline of events from inception to now. This qualitative analysis is supplemented by the associated Excel download which enables interrogation of a whole series of cost and production metrics over the life of the asset.
