The Baiyin Copper Smelter commissioned in 1960 at capacity of 32,100tpy of copper and 170,000 tonnes of sulphur acid. It reached full capacity in 1965. Initially the smelter flowsheet consisted of fluidised-bed roasting, reverberatory furnace smelting, Peirce Smith converters and anode production.
