A Vietnamese exploration team initially explored and then discovered Ban Phuc between 1959-63. In September 2016, after carrying out an extensive review on the operation, Asian Mineral Resources confirmed that it was implementing plans to transition the Ban Phuc operation to care and maintenance over the Q3/16 period due to “sustained low nickel" prices. In May 2018, Asian Mineral Resources divested its 90% ownership in the mine to a Vietnamese company, Ta Khoa Mining Limited for US$3.5 million.
