Baotou steel plant
Report summary
Baotou Iron and Steel Group is an integrated steel producer in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is the largest steel plant within the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the China's 15th largest steel-producing company by crude steel production (14.2 Mt in 2022). It produces a wide range of steel products including bars/rebars, wire rods, rails, medium width hot/cold rolled coils, plates, seamless pipes, and hot/cold rolled sheets, and rare earth products too. Baotou is a relatively low cost producer and is sitting within the first quartile of the Chinese cost curve. This is mainly due to its high self-sufficiency rate in iron ore and availability of cheap coal and coke in the region.
