Halco is owned by Rio Tinto 45%, Alcoa 27%, Alumina Ltd 18% and Dadco 10%. Alcoa and Alumina's interest is held via AWAC. The mine is operated by Compagnie des Bauxite de Guinée (CBG). The company is the largest employer in Guinea and the country's largest export earner, accounting for up to 70% of foreign currency earnings. The mine expansion will add more than 5Mtpa to production capacity, lifting overall output to more than 21Mtpa. This will see the mine become the world's third largest producer.
