Central Omega (closed nickel operation)
Report summary
PT. Central Omega Resources Tbk operated three nickel laterite mines in Sulawesi, namely PT Bumi Konawe Abadi, located in Konawe Utara, Sulawesi Tenggara, PT Mulia Pacific Resources and PT Itamatra Nusantara, both located in Morowali Utara, Sulawesi Tengah. The company had been mining since 2011 and is reported to have produced more than 6.3Mt of nickel ore. PT COR Industri Indonesia was established as a subsidiary in April 2013, responsible for the the construction and operation of the NPI processing and refining facility. In 2018, surging coke prices significantly increased the company's production cost. In January 2019, the company ceased operation amid continued rising coke prices and weak nickel prices.
