Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. (SMM) carried out a bankable feasibility study on the Coral Bay Nickel Project (CBNC) in 2000. The aim of the study was to determine the potential for using Rio Tuba Nickel Co.'s (RTN) stockpiled ore from its Palawan Island mine in the Philippines in a high-pressure acid leach (HPAL) plant. After acquiring all necessary approvals the CBNC plant was commissioned in 2005 and reached its nameplate capacity only two years later in 2007. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating a number of granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry standard cash operating costs.
