On 10 February, President Donald Trump signed executive orders using the Section 232 mandate to apply a 25% tariff on steel and aluminium imported into the US, effectively cancelling exemptions and duty-free quotas on Canada, Mexico, EU, and other countries. These tariffs would go into effect on 12 March. In this Insight we explore the implications of the tariffs and note that there is uncertainty around what the final outcome from the policy will be.
