News reports suggest that a tentative trade deal between the US and Canada is likely to be formulated shortly following extended negotiations between the two countries. The deal would reduce Section 232 tariffs on primary aluminium and steel from 50% to 25%. Although the outcome of the negotiations has yet to be formalised, the Trump administration will be politically motivated to reduce aluminium tariffs ahead of the highly contested midterm elections in November.
