The refinery is located at Gaston, South Carolina. The refinery, together with a secondary copper smelter and a 160kt/a rod plant, was constructed in 1976 by Nassau Recycle Corporation, subsequently AT&T Nassau Metals. The capital cost of the total complex was approximately US$100M. It was purchased by Southwire and the Bank of Montreal from AT&T Nassau Metals in September 1990 for US$8M plus stock.
