The property is located 8km northeast of Whitehall, Jefferson county. Mining at Golden Sunlight is by sub-level longhole open stoping underground mining. Underground development commenced in 2015 and was initially intended to provide supplemental feed to the concentrator in addition to the open pit ore. Due to geotechnical issues, open pit mining at the Mineral Hill open pit ceased in 2015. Golden Sunlight transitioned so that all ore was sourced from the underground operations resulting in a significant fall in annualised ore throughput. Elevated head grades were not sufficient to offset the decline in throughput and gold production has been lower since then. Ore is processed in a carbon in pulp (CIP) circuit with sand tailing re-treatment (STR). Barrick placed Golden Sunlight on care and maintenance in Q2 2019.
