Report summary

The mine exploits Vaal reef which exhibits relatively consistent values.  Yield grades have fallen steadily from 11.8g/t in 1984 to current levels.  The decline in in-situ grade has been partly offset by waste sorting.  In 1972 Zandpan merged its operations with Hartebeestfontein.  Since 1980 the mine has tributed the north eastern part of the lease to Stilfontein.  The mine uses the reverse leach process of recovering uranium prior to gold to enhance gold recovery.
