While nickel pig iron (NPI) may have met with supply tightness in Q2 of this year in China, from the third quarter onwards, it is very likely to move into abundance following the seemingly inexorable expansion of capacity in Indonesia. This insight provides a review of the current NPI developments, the impact on the raw materials requirements for Chinese stainless steel production and what this means for FeNi production in “the west”.
