During June 2025, Wood Mackenzie conducted a two-week nickel field visit across Indonesia, the world's leading nickel producer. We participated in the 2025 Indonesia Critical Mineral Conference and conducted multiple office and site visits in different islands, engaging with industry stakeholders to gain deeper insights into the present nickel market landscape. This insight analyses primary challenges confronting Indonesia's nickel sector today. We provide detailed observations from each production facility visited, capturing operators' perspectives on current market conditions and future outlook. Finally, we present a comprehensive SWOT analysis of Indonesia's competitive position in global nickel markets.
