Operated by a local subsidiary of Rio Tinto, Jadar is a lithium mineral project located in Vojvodina, Serbia. The project hosts a unique sedimentary deposit of jadarite mineralisation. Rio Tinto has approved a US$2.4Bn investment in the project and is aiming for the production of battery-grade lithium carbonate by 2027. However, in early 2022, the Serbian government withdrew the project’s mining licenses in response to widespread environmental protests in the country. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating several granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry-standard cash operating costs.
