Juruti bauxite mine
Report summary
Much of the equipment in the initial stage has been over-specified; the washing plant has 6Mt/a capacity and the port can handle 12Mt/a. The very high cost of the greenfield project may therefore be offset to some extent by subsequent lower cost brownfield expansion. An in situ refinery, not included in our base case, using Juruti bauxite, has been ruled out. AWAC is owned by Alcoa 60% and Alumina Ltd 40%.
