Ma'aden aluminium smelter
Report summary
The 740 kt/a primary aluminium smelter was the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia and is part of a larger project that comprises a 4.25Mt/a bauxite mine, a 1.8Mt/a alumina refinery and a 0.38Mt/a rolling mill. The smelter, which produced first metal in December 2012 and started commercial shipments of ingot in January 2013, is the first totally integrated aluminium smelter in the region. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating a number of granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry standard cash operating costs. This report contains a detailed asset note giving you a holistic view of the asset, including an operational overview through to a timeline of events from inception to now. This qualitative analysis is supplemented by the associated Excel download which enables interrogation of a whole series of cost and production metrics over the life of the asset.
