Minas Itabirito (Southern System) iron ore mine
Report summary
Minas Itabirito is a now-extinguished mining complex that used to be owned and operated by Vale with its northern boundary located approximately 40 kilometres south of the city of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The complex used to produce a mixture of fines, lump and concentrate products for the seaborne export market and the Fábrica pellet plant. At the end of 2019, Vale announced a new organisational structure for its Southern system complexes. Under the new arrangement, Minas Itabirito will be extinguished and its mines split between the Paraopeba and Vargem Grande complexes.
