Minas-Rio is a surface iron ore operated by Anglo American, located in the northeast corner of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero region of Minas Gerais, near Conceição do Mato Dentro. In 2024, Vale acquired a 15% stake in the asset as part of a broader transaction that included the transfer of the adjacent Serra da Serpentina resource. The Minas-Rio deposit is one of the largest in Brazil. The operation produces two pellet feed products, a DR grade and a BF grade, which are entirely exported to the seaborne market. Production began in 2014 and reached a record output in 2024. Key ongoing investments include a tailings filtration plant, set for commissioning in 2026, and recleaner flotation circuits, expected online in 2029.
