Mining Area C (MAC) is a large, open-cut iron ore mining operation located approximately 360 kilometres by rail from Port Hedland, Western Australia. BHP Billiton has an 85% interest in MAC, with foundation partners Itochu and Mitsui, owning 8% and 7%, respectively. MAC is expected to operate at a full capacity of 65 Mtpa from 2027, producing about 145Mtpa from the Hub which includes South Flank. MAC is one of the lowest cost mines supplying the seaborne market.
