Murrin Murrin nickel operation
Report summary
Murrin Murrin was developed as one of three plants during the late 1990's which were to be the "new wave of high pressure acid leach plants". These were to "revolutionise" global nickel production, producing nickel at very low cash costs (due to cobalt credits and the use of sulphur to produce acid and energy). As things transpired, this wasn't quite the case on all fronts and both Cawse and Bulong (the two smaller plants commissioned around the same time) closed and Murrin took a long time to reach capacity on a consistent basis. The operation has however been operating consistently since 2012.
