Mutanda is a large-scale copper and cobalt producer located in Katanga province. The operation is wholly owned by Glencore. Ore is mined using conventional open pit load and haul method, prior to leaching to produce final product of copper cathode. Cobalt is produced as a by-product in cobalt hydroxide form. The operation is expected to resume in H1 2022, after being placed on care and maintenance in November 2019. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating a number of granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry standard cash operating costs.
