O'Okiep (closed) copper smelter
Report summary
The O'okiep smelter was commissioned in 1939 and is a small reverberatory furnace based smelter without anode casting or acid plant facilities. In the past the smelter treated O'okiep concentrates and Prieska concentrates. The Prieska material was replaced with Foskor concentrate, small tonnages of other South African concentrates and, in 1992, with imported concentrate due to a substantial reduction in Foskor receipts.
