Plovdiv zinc smelter
Report summary
The decision to construct a zinc smelter at Plovdiv was taken in 1957 to enable the processing of the expanded output of concentrates in the Rhodopi region. Design and construction took place between 1959 and 1961 and the zinc plant, capacity 35kt/a, was commissioned at the end of 1961, being expanded to 55kt/a in 1963; lead production at the 50kt/a sinter - blast furnace - pyro-refining lead smelter that shares the same site started at the end of 1963.
