An arrangement was reached between Randfontein, JCI, AngloVaal, New Wits and South Roodepoort for mining the South reef and the Kimberley reef beneath an area to the north-east of the Cooke section of Randfontein, known as Doornkop. Reserves on these two reefs were put at 58Mt @ 7.4g/t. The development of this area commenced with an initial start-up planned for 1987 at 0.6Mt/a at a cost of R375M (1983 terms) with expansions to 3.6Mt/a by the mid-1990s at a further cost of R300M (1983...
