On a recent visit to China, we met with several companies active in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) copper-cobalt sector. Executives indicated no plans for major new investments, citing rising political and commercial uncertainty, tighter export governance, and the perception that Kinshasa is pivoting toward the United States and its partners. Several firms expressed the view that additional investment into the country’s mining sector is now less likely. In this Insight we explore these current trends.
