On Thursday, 1 March 2018, in a Cabinet Room meeting with the “biggest steel and big aluminium companies” President Trump announced his plans to institute a 25% tariff on US steel imports for an unlimited time. The executive order that will put the tariffs in place is to be signed this week (5-9 March 2018) and in this report we try to quantify what this could mean for the US steel industry in 2018.
