No1 ISF was commissioned in 1976 and No.2 in 1996, the plant then comprised two complete streams of sinter plant - blast furnace - zinc refinery. In October 2010 both ISF furnaces were forced to stop production due to a pollution incident. In September 2012, it was announced that No.2 ISF was to restart. However this furnace is only likely to operate until a brand new 150kt/a electrolytic zinc plant is commissioned, after this time the ISF plant at Shaoguan will close permanently.
