The zinc smelter at Shifang was built in 1989 with a nominal capacity of 10kt/a zinc slab, which was later developed to produce up to 30kt/a. A major expansion in 2002 brought the capacity to 75kt/a slab zinc. Further debottlenecking in 2003 raised capacity to the current 100kt/a slab zinc.
