Tsingshan Morowali nickel operation
Report summary
The Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) started operating in 2013 and was officially opened in 2015. By the end of 2017 China's Tsingshan Iron and Steel, under the banner of one of its holding groups, Shanghai Decent Investment (Group) Co. Ltd had invested more than US$3.4 billion in its integrated stainless and crude steel operation. Tsingshan estimated that by mid 2019 it would have invested around $5 billion in the IMIP and would be able to produce 3Mt/a of stainless steel and 3.5Mt/a of crude (carbon) steel after all phases of commissioning and ramp-up were completed. By the end of 2018 total accumulated investment was more than US$7 billion in the IMIP industrial park.
