Report summary

Varzea do Lopes is a medium sized iron ore surface mine situated in Brazil's Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF) region approximately 50 kilometres south of the city of Belo Horizonte.Gerdau's original plans for their Miguel Burnier and Varzea do Lopes mines were to achieve 100% self sufficiency for its nearby steel facility Ouro Branco. As the project was being realized and additional resources were discovered in those areas Gerdau started contemplating expansion plans which had to be placed on hold shortly after due to weak market conditions. After Miguel Burnier's closure at the end of 2015 Varzea do Lopes is currently the only mine from Gerdau in operation.
