On-going development in the nickel pig iron (NPI) sector has seen production move solely from the use of blast furnaces at the time of its foundation in 2005, through to an ascendency of electric furnaces to the more recent use of RKEF (rotary kiln electric furnace). This Insight aims to provide an update on the cost structure of the three processing routes and put this into a global context in terms of cost competitiveness.
