Report summary
The North China basin is a prolific hydrocarbon province covering more than 435,000 km2, of which over 85% is onshore. Foreign investment is limited to the offshore (Bohai Gulf) sector of the basin, where explorers have created exceptional value through the discovery of shallow-water oil volumes. While a number of large and giant discoveries account for a significant proportion of offshore value creation, operators have also leveraged spare infrastructure to fast-track the development of smaller finds, delivering exceptional rates of return. This exploration basin report provides a detailed analysis of recent exploration and future expectations including discovery and development costs, location maps and information about licensing and fiscal terms.
