Exploration is key to PETRONAS’ upstream growth and the company has actively returned to the drill bit in 2022 and 2023. An optimised exploration portfolio provides funding for its decarbonisation agenda. Since 2022, PETRONAS adopted a 'reclaiming the homefront' approach to secure its domestic energy supply. As a result, its exploration performance is improving - driven by value creation in Malaysia. This is supplemented by a large acreage footprint overseas, in deepwater frontier and growth basins. Its international acreage has the potential to deliver material volumes.
