A July 6th ruling from a Washington D.C. district court judge has mandated the shut down of the Dakota Access pipeline – the most critical line in the Bakken crude egress system. The pipeline must be shut down and emptied while the US Army Corps of Engineers prepares an environmental impact report which may take upwards of a year. In this report, we explore what this could mean for the Bakken, a long time source of tight oil production.
