Sending mixed signals: Midwest power and renewables short term outlook March 2019
Report summary
The month of March has highlighted many of the resiliency issues the North American power grid is grappling with as renewable penetration continues to ramp up in a number of markets. In ERCOT, the ISO reached an all time peak demand for March during the first week of the month. And, with peak demand hitting near sunrise and accompanied by low wind availability, prices approached 700 $/MWh for a few hours. In California, real time hourly prices have exceeded 400 $/MWh on a number of days.
