Southern Cone Power: What to watch in 2021
Report summary
After a 2020 focused on dealing with pandemic-related impacts on the electricity sectors across the region, 2021 started with greater expectations. Despite most of the countries still being concerned with uncontrolled contamination rates, current impact on electricity demand is limited. With most of the cash flow issues in the sector already balanced by local regulatory measures, in 2021 authorities will resume both their regulatory and investment agendas. In this sense, we expect four major events will mostly shape 2021 in the Southern Cone: Brazil starting wholesale market hourly pricing; Argentina managing its backlog of renewable projects; regulated auctions scheduled in Brazil and Chile; renewable additions will set a new record of 9 GW.
