In March 2025, Varo Energy announced an agreement to acquire Preem Holding AB and Preem AB through the purchase of 100% of the share capital of the parent company, Corral Petroleum Holdings AB. The deal includes Preem's two refineries, totalling 352 kb/d of refining capacity, providing over 40% of Sweden’s transport fuel demand. Preemraff refineries were among the weakest sites commercially in Europe according to our Refinery Evaluation Modelling service but plans to transition Lysekil refinery to HVO and SAF co-processing could be the saving grace.
