Two-wheelers represent the backbone of personal transportation across India and Southeast Asia, currently comprising approximately 80% of the region's vehicle stock. This dominance stems from several factors: affordability compared to four-wheelers, superior fuel efficiency, flexibility in navigating both dense urban environments and rural areas, and alignment with income levels across these developing economies. The vehicles serve not only personal transportation needs but also play crucial roles in commercial activities, goods transport, and last-mile delivery services. This report analyses the transformative impact of electric two-wheeler (E2W) adoption on gasoline demand across India and Southeast Asia, focusing on India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The research projects that by 2050, electric two-wheelers will displace approximately 750,000 barrels per day (b/d) of gasoline demand as the region undergoes a significant mobility transition.
