RED III: Can the EU meet its ambitious transport decarbonisation targets?
Report summary
Policy is a major driver for decarbonisation in the transport sector. The EU has been at the forefront of this in 2023, with the long-awaited revised Renewable Energy Directive (RED III), ReFuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime acts all being finalised. RED III requires a renewable energy share in the transport sector of at least 29% or a greenhouse gas intensity reduction of at least 14.5% by 2030, driving up the demand for renewable transport fuels. In this insight, we explore the impact of RED III on the EU's renewable transport fuel demand over the next decade.
