With domestic gas supply shortfalls predicted in eastern Australia and strong gas prices driven by LNG netbacks, the Cooper Basin shale play is attracting attention from both explorers and existing gas producers. The Cooper Basin is expected to be a key source of volumes, due to its strategic location. Due to rising gas price in the East Coast domestic market, shale exploration activity has increased in the Cooper Basin.
