The Ajil oil field is located 85 kilometres southeast of the Kirkuk province in the Salahudding province of Northern Iraq and was discovered in 1977 by Iraq National Oil Company (INOC). Oil was discovered in the Jeribe formation which has a substantial gas cap. Ajil started producing in 1994 under the operatorship of the North Oil Company (NOC).
