On 11 July 2016, the government of Alberta announced two new royalty programs: The Emerging Resources Program and the Enhanced Hydrocarbon Recovery Program. The purpose of these programs is to compensate producers for the increased costs of enhanced recovery methods, as well as the higher development costs associated with emerging resources
