The Area A oil development lies onshore in Egypt's Eastern Desert. The fields came onstream in the 1960s and have long since been in decline.The fields are owned by the Egyptian Government's General Petroleum Company (GPC) and operated by Hong Kong-listed United Energy Group (UEG, 70%) and Oman's Petrogas (30%) under a service contract.
