The Arman heavy oil field is owned and operated by Hong Kong-registered Leader Way Corporation. It is located in southwest Kazakhstan next to the large Kalamkas field. Oil production is now less than 600 b/d but is expected to grow by about 20% thanks to a new well scheduled to drill in 2025. Development has been complicated by Arman's location in the Caspian Sea transition zone and its low-quality crude. Most oil is refined and sold domestically.
